Brooklyn Bruner, a 2024 grad and past member of Sound System, recently came back to choreograph one number for Surround Sound and another number for Accents, both of which will be performed at this year’s Noel show.
While Bruner recently started to choreograph at the high school, she has been choreographing numbers for Center Grove Middle School North’s junior musicals since her freshman year.
“I chose to come back to help [Accents and Surround Sound] because I have a great love for dance and choreography, but I have an even greater love for the program, the directors and the students,” Bruner said.
During her time at Center Grove, she choreographed three home show numbers and a competition show dance break for Sound System. She also choreographed and performed three special acts with her dance partner Landon Hoover. After they performed their number “The Best Things Happen While You Dance” at last year’s Noel, choral director Jennifer Dice talked to Bruner about hiring her.
“Brooklyn being back has really helped the choirs because she has gone through our program and she understands what it takes to help the choirs, and she also understands the ability within the choirs as well,” Surround Sound director Jared Norman said.
Bruner choreographs because she loves the creativity and joy it brings others.
“Hearing their positive feedback motivates me to continue creating and teaching choreography. It is an incredible program and I am so grateful to be a part of it,” Bruner said.
“Brooklyn has made the learning process easier for them because the kids are closer in age to her and understand her and her choreography.” Norman said.
Surround Sound Dance Captain Alayna Weesner believes having Bruner back has helped the students in the JV choirs.
“It was helpful having Brooklyn in with us because since she was younger than the rest of our choreographers, it was easier to understand her,” Weesner said. “Having Brooklyn as a previous dance captain was helpful, so she was used to our room, the students, and she also asked questions and made sure we were not continuing choreography blind.”
Bruner’s choreographed dances will be on display in December when the choirs once again put on the Noel Christmas show.
