Recently, Swig has been a popular place for kids who have been wanting to find new tasty, affordable and different drinks. Located on 5145 Noggle Way, the beverage store has been a recent favorite option to find drinks to enjoy on any type of day.
Swig started originally in Utah, where a large population of members of ‘The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ reside. The Church discourages the drinking of hot caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea, making soft drinks and sodas a common alternative for members, and making Swig popular in Utah. Along with this, the recent spike of viewers watching “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” on Netflix has also caused a recent growth in Swig’s popularity. The series captures scenes in which the characters are drinking dirty soda, which made the drink become trendy not only in Utah, but across the country.
From Utah to Indiana, Swig is an exceptional place to go to when looking for a new drink experience.
When arriving at Swig, the first thing to notice is the menu. Swig offers a variety of drink options ranging from classic tastes to new fun flavors. The majority of the drink’s bases include Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Mountain Dew and lemonade. Once you’ve decided on your base, you can then add flavorings and creamers to further develop your drink’s unique taste. These add-ins are anything from fruity syrups to savory creamers, from strawberry to butterscotch. Swig creates new drinks and remakes their versions of classic beverages from people’s favorite restaurants and fast food places.
As of right now, the lobby isn’t available to the public, so after you order, you pay for your items at the window. When it comes to prices, Swig offers a wide selection of sizes you can choose from: 12oz, 16oz, 24oz, 32oz, 44oz base drinks with the prices ranging from $1.50-$2.65. If you decide to add some extra flavorings to your drink, the flavoring options are from $0.40 to $0.70. You can also add custom “special instructions” for the barista so that they can make your drink as unique as possible.
These drinks seen on their menu, both in-person and online are very different from one another. Even if they have the same base soda, the different combinations of flavorings bring out each drink’s different taste. Seasonal favorites change based on the time of year. Since Swig opened in August, their fall-flavored drinks have been popular, such as Autumn Blush and Cinnamon Cider. Not only are these drinks creative as to what’s going in the drink, but also how they present the drink itself. The drinks appear in fun colors that will definitely appeal to the eye, with colors such as blue, yellow, brown, orange, pink and many more.
Like any other experience, it can’t always be perfect. Swig is around a 25-minute drive from the Center Grove area, which can be a problem for some people who are in a time crunch or in a hurry. Best bets are that if you get there and notice one thing, it’s probably the fact that the line for Swig can sometimes be wrapped around multiple buildings and the wait time can be hours. In fact, I waited 90 minutes to order. If you or someone you know is planning to go to Swig anytime soon, bringing a friend or someone who you can talk to while you wait is not a bad option. Swig opens at 8 a.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Going at the beginning of their open hours is the easiest solution if you’re a person who doesn’t like to wait!
