As the season is changing, leaves are turning and pools are closing, people are starting to wonder what to do in their free time. From someone who loves all things fall, here are my top 5 activities you can do this season.
Carving Pumpkins
This activity is super fun to do with your friends or family. You can go to your local pumpkin patch and pick out your favorite pumpkins. Then you bring it home, take out all the seeds, and carve the spookiest face into your pumpkin. While you do not have to carve anything spooky or even a face, that is the stereotypical image that is carved. Some local pumpkin patches are Kelsay Farms LLC, Anderson Orchard or Welch’s Holiday Farm.
Haunted House
While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, there is still thrill and excitement when going to a haunted house. It’s a weekend activity you and your friend can attend, but I would suggest ordering tickets online ahead if they are available. Another suggestion would be to go earlier in the afternoon, so the line, which can be hours long, is shorter. Once inside, get ready to encounter scary characters like movie killers, ghosts, or half animal-half humans. Some of the most popular haunted houses nearby are Nightmare on Edgewood and Hanna Haunted Acres.
Apple Orchard
When going to an apple orchard, you can buy anything apple. For example they have apple cider, apple butter, caramel apples, etc. My personal favorite is an apple cider slushie, which is just apple cider in slushy form. The apple orchard is also a great background for pictures that you and your friends could take for Instagram or any social media. This is just a fun place to spend your afternoon. The best orchard in the area is Anderson Orchard.
ZooBoo
Not only can you enjoy going to the Indianapolis Zoo to see your favorite animals, but you can also dress up and see everything the zoo has to offer for Halloween. ZooBoo is every Wednesday through Friday in the afternoon. They have a roller coaster, food and games, as well as a new attraction called Pumpkin Town. It has a DJ with dancing parties, witches and a mirror maze. This is a great place for people who may be a little too scared for haunted houses.
Football Games
Football is an iconic American fall sport. Win or lose, this is a fun experience to dress up and go out to a game. You can visit your local Ray Skillman Stadium for a Friday night game. As you dress in red and white or for the theme of that week you can cheer your Trojans to victory along with your friends. There are also college games like IU or Purdue. Lastly you can go to Lucas Oil to cheer on the Indianapolis Colts.
