In terms of music, with a small group of guys like this, how important is it to know your part and hold yourself accountable? How do you manage to do this?
“I think knowing your part and keeping yourself accountable are the most important things because if you don’t know your part then you can’t move on to making the song sound amazing and if you don’t keep working at it then you can’t make it any better than the first time you rehearsed it. I manage this by making a schedule for myself everyday whether it be on paper or in my head and I say this time will be used for school, this will be used for practice, and this will be personal time.” – Max Fosnot ’26
How long have you been in this group? What has changed (for the better) since you first came into this group? How important were those changes for you?
“I have been in the group for two years, and I feel like I’ve been able to get so much closer to everyone since I joined. My freshman year, before I was in Sh’boom, I didn’t really talk to many people in choir. I didn’t really know most people outside of the fact that I was in choir with them. Being in this group of seven guys has given me the opportunity to become great friends with these guys. Being in the group has allowed me to really get to know these guys that I now consider to be some of my best friends.” – Ethan Wood ’26
With being in 2 choirs outside of this group, how do you stay on top of learning new music with these guys on top of learning stuff for CG Singers and Sound System?
“The most important thing in order to keep up with all of it is time management. Making sure you stay organized and motivated allows you to hone in on the important aspects of each class along with the choirs. It’s good to be able to lean on the other guys in the group too. Everyone is such a great musician and student in this group that it makes learning easy. Everyone is always eager to help out.” – Jonah Smith ’26
What is your favorite part about performing with these guys? Why?
“My favorite part of performing with Sh’Boom is that these guys are some of my best friends. Having as many rehearsals as we do both for Sh’Boom and Sound System, we really become close and we always have a good time performing and singing together. With these guys being some of my closest friends, it really makes performing with them something special. There is a feeling of brotherhood that I’ve never quite felt in any other group. I’m extremely thankful for these guys and couldn’t be happier to be performing with them this year.” – Eric Varney ’25
Explain how the support system in Sh’Boom has an impact on you. How do the bonds made in Sh’Boom matter to the group as a whole?
“In my opinion, the support system has impacted me to have more confidence when I am singing or beat boxing that I didn’t have prior to Sh’Boom. We all can critique and compliment each other very well which is something that a lot of groups struggle to do and I really appreciate that. The bonds made as well in the group has helped me become closer with some of my best friends and have more fun while learning a challenging song.” – Brady Boyce ’25
What is one thing that you guys are proud of as a group? What are some of the big accomplishments Sh’Boom has done? What memories do you have that makes this group unique? What are some things that stand out to you in Sh’Boom and what could you improve on?
“We are very proud of our group bonding and work ethic. We all come prepared to practice every time to work efficiently and effectively. Our hard work pays off when we are able to perform at Center Grove choir shows and other community events. My favorite memory of Sh’Boom has been going around town caroling for the holiday season. We even surprised one of our own members by showing up at his family reunion! We are super excited for the rest of this year, hoping to bring joy to more and more audiences.” – Brock Bailer ’25
What is one thing that you guys are proud of as a group? What are some of the big accomplishments Sh’Boom has done? What memories do you have that makes this group unique? What are some things that stand out to you in Sh’Boom and what could you improve on?
“I am proud to be making a difference in our CG community. Performing at charity events, big parties and celebrations, and sporting events have brought me so much joy. We get to talk to and connect with so many people—friends, family, and strangers alike. I am always reminded of why Sh’Boom makes me happy when we go caroling during the holiday season to dozens of homes. Seeing people young and old from every background light up when they hear us sing gives me a strong sense of fulfillment (the cookies and treats we get are a pretty nice bonus too!)” – Krishaan Vadia ’25
What does Sh’Boom mean to you?
“Sh’Boom feels like growth in my life. I’ve been trying to get better at singing and I feel like Sh’Boom is the best way for me to enjoy singing with friends and showing all the effort we have put into making choir part of our lives. I’ve always looked up to Sh’boom and how they make the time to become part of the community. Being part of it feels like a dream come true. I’ve always loved putting smiles on peoples faces and I believe that I’ve been blessed with wonderful people to work with to do that. Sh’Boom means a lot to me and I wish that these days with this group could last forever.” – Max Fosnot ’26
“To me, Sh’boom is a group of guys having fun together doing something that we all love. All of us love to sing together and that’s what we get to do all the time. Sh’boom is a group that loves getting to perform the national anthem at sporting events, performing at choir concerts, and caroling every year. Performing gives us so much joy and we are so grateful that we get to do that together. Sh’boom is a group that is always rooted in having fun, enjoying our time together and creating amazing memories together.” – Ethan Wood ’26
“It means so much. It’s so awesome that I can go out and have the same experience that both my brothers had when they were in highschool. It allows me to feel connected with them. Not only is it a great way to improve as a musician, sing fun music, and perform, but it also allows me to have that connection with my brothers. It’s so nice to carry on the tradition with this great group of guys that my brother started 10 years ago. – Jonah Smith ’26
“To me, Sh’Boom is like a brotherhood. These are some of my closest friends, and being able to sing with them and bring smiles to faces is something I’m very thankful for. Sh’Boom is a way for me to display my interests in music even more than Sound System allows, and it’s amazing to be able to perform in such a fun way with people I’m close with.” – Eric Varney ’25
“Sh’Boom to me is an amazing opportunity to expand my musicianship, as well as being a part of a family at the same time. Learning song after song, performing, and caroling around town is something that is genuinely so fun and has had so much influence on what I want to do in the future.” – Brady Boyce ’25
“Sh’Boom is a group that can bring smiles to anyone, no matter their age. Sh’Boom is based right here in Center Grove, and we love performing for our community. Sh’Boom loves to give back, and we have an opportunity to use our singing to spread the love!” – Brock Bailer ’25
“Sh’Boom means brotherhood and bringing joy to our community through song. Our ensemble represents a chance for us to use our talents and passion for performing in a meaningful way, all while getting to form bonds with each other—every rehearsal feels like a hangout with our closest friends.” – Krishaan Vadia ’25
