We all know that there are days where you wake up way before your alarm out of excitement to start the day, while others have you snoozing the alarm five times wishing you weren’t enrolled in school in the first place. However, I’ve found that there is a discrepancy among students over which day of the week is the best. So, I’ve compiled a detailed ranking of the days of the week, from worst to best, with compelling evidence sure to convince you that some days are simply just better than others.
7. Monday
A noncontroversial pick for number 7, Monday is the most brutal and challenging day to push through. When your initial alarm goes off, you want to scream into your pillow and throw your phone across the room. Mondays will have you fighting to keep both eyes open while the announcements play at 7:35 a.m. Feeling the effects of the weekend, you will be groggy through the halls while feeling annoyed at everyone. Even this year’s introduction of Monday STaR couldn’t fix the monstrosity that is the first day of the week.
There are virtually no positive things that could be said about Mondays. They absolutely disgust me. Without a doubt, Monday is the worst day of the week.
6. Tuesday
Not good but not great, Tuesday is just there. It’s the day when you ask your friend “It’s Thursday right?,” and when they tell you it’s not, a loud groan follows. It has no redeeming qualities that would make it higher on the list. In fact, the most memorable thing about Tuesday just might be the cafeteria sushi.
5. Wednesday
Now we’re getting somewhere. Wednesday gets undeserved hate, especially with the “hump day” nickname. Wednesday is a sign that you’re already halfway through a long week, which should be looked at in a positive way. Besides, you have already conquered the worst two days, so use Wednesday as motivation to finish the week.
Also, Wednesday’s are an underrated school day. The most obvious flaw might be having no STaR or AIM, as four 90-minute classes in a row is a recipe for students falling asleep during a 10th period lecture. However, the 45 min early release really allows for a quality and extended after-school nap. Wednesdays are prime for those with seat waivers too. An already short day becoming shorter? Sign me up! Overall, Wednesdays aren’t the best days of the week, but they also aren’t terrible.
4. Sunday
After finding myself doomscrolling through the #sundayreset TikToks, I came to the conclusion that Sunday is the perfect day to relax and get your life together. Don’t believe me? Clean up your room, light a candle, turn on an NFL game, finish up some homework and then tell me you don’t feel like one of the most productive people to ever walk the Earth. This is the day to complete any non-academic tasks in order to start your week off on the right foot.
Sunday’s are great, but with that overarching feeling of the school week upon you, they tend to get stressful. The idea that you’ll “finish your homework over the weekend” sounds great until you find yourself cramming in three pages of Geometry homework at 10 p.m. on Sunday night. Or, you might have the issue of having a review day in class on Thursday, and because of CG’s block scheduling, the test falls on Monday. This leads to an intense Sunday night study session where you are pulling information from the depths of your brain and trying to remember what your teacher said four days ago. Trust me, it’s not a fun experience. Ultimately, the pressure of school is what gives Sunday the lowest rating out of the weekend dates.
3. Thursday
This might be a controversial take, but Thursday is a top three pick. It flies under the radar, yet is filled with a lot of great things. On Thursdays, motivation is high as you conquer your last red or white day of the week. This also means that homework assigned on Thursday doesn’t have to be turned in until Monday, giving you nearly four days of work (procrastination?) time. This relieves so much pressure because some assignments simply feel like too much to be completed during the week.
Time also seems to fly by on Thursdays. They don’t have the prolonged, dreadful feel like Mondays and Tuesdays do, yet they don’t have you anxiously waiting for the weekend to start like Fridays do. Thursdays just feel routine. You can always count on that studious AIM session and a delightful bowl of Ella’s Frozen Yogurt on the fourth day of your school week, and that’s the beauty of Thursdays.
2. Friday
There’s a reason that there is a restaurant chain and popular GloRilla song dedicated to thanking God it’s Friday. Fridays are the glorious reward for persevering through four school days filled with blood, sweat and tears.
Some of the best memories are made on Friday nights. With the stress of the week lifted off your shoulders, you can finally have some fun. For example, Fridays in the fall have you experiencing the iconic combination of getting ready for the football game at your friend‘s house, cheering on the Trojans while wearing the most on-theme outfit possible, and then finishing off the night by going to eat wings at Tried and True afterwards. Fridays are all about having a good time with the important people in your life who you may not see during the busy week.
While Fridays are great and all, you still have to go to school. Yes, your Friday school day might contain STaR parties and more laid back lesson plans, but the superior day of the week features the excitement felt on Fridays without the eight hours of torture.
1 Saturday
As a society, we need to show our love and appreciation for Saturdays more. They are the best because you can fill them with whatever you may please. Weekend trips, extracurricular events, and hanging out in a buddy’s basement are all things you can find teenagers doing on a typical Saturday. It’s the time of the week where you can focus on doing the things you enjoy.
It’s also the only day of the week where there is no pressure to do anything academic. You have five days in the school week and on Sundays you have to study and complete assignments that are due at 11:59 p.m. So, the one day to pause your duties as a student would be Saturdays.
Also, nothing beats a good Saturday morning, whatever that may look like. They can be as productive or as lazy as you make them. You stayed out too late on Friday? No problem, sleep in on Saturday. Or, how about waking up to go grab coffee and brunch with a friend? There are so many great options. Without the usual obligations of getting to the parking lot by 7:20 a.m. or waking up for Sunday morning church, Saturday mornings feel like complete freedom to a high school student.
Calm, stress-free, and enjoyable, they feature the best qualities from the other days without having a blatant flaw. Overall, the best day to experience is Saturday.
