- Handel’s Ice Cream
Handel’s, established in 1945, is a favorite for many when looking for a spot for ice cream. Handel’s Ice Cream was brought to 902 N State Rd 135 a few years ago. Handel’s uses plenty of fresh, creative ingredients that can be used to make over 100 options for flavors. Additionally, you can put any of these flavors into a cone, a dish, a sundae or even a milkshake. With all of these options, it is easy to find a flavor for anybody. Even though Handel’s offers more flavors than many other shops, the quality of their ice cream is not sacrificed. All of their ice cream is packed with a rich flavor, and a smooth texture. Our favorites of the bunch are the “Blue Monster” and “Buckeye.”
- Ritter’s Frozen Custard
Ritter’s is a hidden gem located on 3219 W County Line Rd. Ritter’s offers many unique dishes of ice cream including their “Mud Sundae,” a chocolate frozen treat with chocolate syrup, marshmallow creme and Oreo cookies, and “Grizzly Cub Special,” a sundae featuring hot fudge and spanish peanuts. Ritter’s offers other delicious sundaes, pies, cakes, ice cream sandwiches, smoothies and their ice cream Glaciers. The create-your-own section, featuring 27 toppings, coupled with their already diverse menu options, ensures that anybody can find a treat that they will appreciate.
- Cold Stone
Despite all of these parlors having their own unique signature dishes, Cold Stone, on 5025 E 82nd St, Ste 400 Indianapolis, IN 46250, is on another level when it comes to their creativity. This is especially showcased by their limited time flavor, “Ice Cream at the end of the Rainbow™” flavor, which includes a green ice cream cone, marshmallow’s from the cereal “Lucky Charms™” and edible golden glitter. On top of their creative dishes, they also offer the basic flavors like mint chocolate chip, chocolate and vanilla, a variety of flavors that customers can delight over.
- Dairy Queen
Although some may call Dairy Queen basic, it has been serving people since 1940. It was founded in our neighboring state, Illinois, and then brought over to Indiana in 1953. A nearby Dairy Queen rests at 330 S State Rd 135. While some find it overrated, you need to take the time and value into perspective too. Dairy Queen is known for their signature “Blizzards.” They also serve normal food like your favorite fast food restaurant. It is a great cheap well-known place to go to get a quick scoop of a cold treat with your friends.
- Graeter’s
Graeter’s Ice Cream originated in the year 1870 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since then they have added locations, including the one on 5560 N Illinois St, Indianapolis, IN 46208, where many people enjoy it today. Graeter’s is known for their hand-crafted premium ice cream. When you walk in you still get the feeling of the fancy and classical environment. Just like most they have a variety of flavors from the primary vanilla to “Skyline Spice,” which is their special ice cream that is supposed to have a chili-flavored taste. This wide, yet unique, variety of flavors gives so many options to the customers to choose from.
