On Sept. 19, Best Buddies had their annual match party, which is dedicated to pairing a Best Buddies member with their buddy.

The event, which takes up almost an entire hallway, can be heard many classrooms away as the laughter echoes. Maddie Jackson and Chloe Kaptian, who organized the party, helped direct members of the club to their new buddies.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to know my buddy and spending more time with him and helping him become more social,” said historian Chloe Kaptian who was paired with Matthew Wieske. “My favorite event was the Halloween party because it gave everyone a chance to get out and spend time with each other while being dressed up and having fun.”

Planning events is one of the many things that Best Buddies does to benefit their members and the community.

A main priority this year for members of Best Buddies is to get more interactive and involved with other members and people outside of the club.

“I think my goal is to make the club go out to the community more and do more community service insteadof just parties,” said treasurer Cali Dillion. “We have thought about Christmas caroling with everyone at nursing homes, and I know they would love that. I hope to make the club overall more involved rather than people who just come to just say they are in it.”

Best Buddies also focuses on the relationship between buddies and club members. They have a detailed pairing process to ensure compatibility between a peer and their buddy.

“People wanting to be a peer buddy signed up online and went in for interviews with the officers,” said Kaptian. The officers then looked for compatability, “looking at personalities and seeing who they think would have a bond with who.”

Those relationships are the key to Best Buddies.

“Best Buddies has brought me many new friendships and I have learned a lot from the club. I love spending time with the buddies, they make it so much fun. Best Buddies, I feel, helps the school gain a better relationship with the buddies,” said the secretary Ellie Bemis.
