Students raise money for Riley Childrens foundation

On Friday, March 9, students are gathering together to support Riley Children’s Hospital and their fundraiser “For the Kids.” Each year Riley Club hosts a six-hour dance marathon to raise money for these kids.

Last year, the club raised over $9,000 for the kids, and this Friday they hope to reach $12,000. Attendees are not supposed to sit for the entire time to stand for the kids who cannot.IMG_3493 2

“Our dance marathon is a blast,” senior Erin Kelly said. “We teach a line dance, have free food, play games, dance to good music and have our Riley kids share their stories.”

The free food is from restaurants like Arni’s, South of Chicago, Fazoli’s, Jack’s Donuts, Margaritas, Chili’s, El Rodeo and Johnny Carino’s.

“It’s from 5-11 p.m. this Friday, and we are having an opening ceremony with last year’s members doing our dance from the last marathon,” Kelly said.

IMG_3491 2Throughout the year, Riley Club, does a variety of events such as Dine to Donates, TeamRaisers (an online fundraiser) and bucket fundraisers at sporting events to raise money for the kids. The dance marathon is another fundraiser in which 100 percent of the profits go to Riley Children’s Hospital.

“I think my favorite part about the dance marathon would be the big reveal at the end showing how much we raised throughout the year for these amazing kids,” sophomore Mahek Agrawal said.

To attend to this event, bring a required $10 donation.
