Best Buddies Club Holds Christmas Cookie Decorating Day
December 13, 2019
The Best Buddies club celebrated Cookie Decorating Day on December 12 during AIM. It was not the first time the club has decorated cookies, but this was a new seasonal spin on the tradition.
“We’ve done cookie decorating in the past, but not necessarily for Christmas,” Jennifer Casselman, one of the Best Buddies club sponsors, said. “But usually at least once a year, we do some kind of holiday cookie decorating.”
The Cookie Decorating Day is just one of many of the Best Buddies club activities that are hosted throughout the year. However, Casselman says this event allows buddies to embrace their creative side while enjoying festive treats.
“It’s a good opportunity for kids to hang out with their buddy, and most people like cookies, so that’s always good,” Casselman said. “They get to decorate them how they want. We’ve got some little artists in the group, so they really get into the decorating and the sprinkles. They have a little fun with it.”
Anika Vinard worked with her buddy Aaron Tugan to decorate their cookies with frosting and sprinkle stars. She says she liked the chance to spend more time with the Best Buddies club.
“I get to hang out with Aaron, my buddy, and I get to see everybody that I don’t usually get to see,” Vinard said.
Senior buddies Camie Petro and Ally Beach watched Christmas movies together to celebrate the season.
“I like meeting new people in Best Buddies even though I’m not going to be here next year,” Petro said.
Even after the holiday events, junior Braedon Grube appreciates the club’s mission.
“As best buddies, we are supposed to share each other’s feelings, be there for one another, and always have each others backs,” Grube said.
