The girls bowling team finished their first season in 2024 with a semistate title and a 10th place finish in the IHSB tournament. Tomorrow, they defend the regional title in pursuit of another deep postseason run.
“This is my second year on the girls bowling team, and it was really cool and an exciting experience to make it into regionals,” said junior Jillian Rosener. “To make it into regionals we competed in the sectional games and ended up placing first overall.”
The team went into sectionals ranked No. 2 overall and beat Roncalli 326-288 to win the title.
In addition to the girls team advancing to regionals, Rosener and sophomore Jameson Warren will compete individually as well. Though the boys team did not advance out of sectionals, Tristan Felke advanced to regionals individually.
“For the competitions we start off bowling individually the first part of the day and we all play our own frames,” junior Livia Cameron said. “The second part of our day, we play as a team and bowl ten frames. Then to get our final score the points from the morning and the points from our team game get added to get our final scores.”
The pressure to repeat the postseason success can bring nerves, but team members say the support has eased this challenge.
“It’s kind of exciting, but it’s also a little bit intimidating going into a competition so big, but going into it I try to cope with my nerves by just being in the moment,” junior Angela Burke said. “Especially because the team, we all hype each other up so much and it definitely helps calm down the nerves even durning big competitions.”
To get through the regional, the team will have to be on top of their technique and skill.
“Having increased competition means that we have to correct and change our shots quicker, so we can stay on top to be able to keep our scores up,” said Burke.
