Freshman Carson Steele stole the show with four touchdowns and several sprints downfield toward the end zone as Center Grove defeated Whiteland 41-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Scoring a touchdown rather quickly in the first quarter, the Trojans only improved their lead from there.
The defense was also impressive, shutting out Whiteland, helped by a pair of interceptions by Brad Boswell and AJ Gin.
Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Steele managed to punch the ball into the end zone not once but twice. This happened minutes after two touchdowns were called back by penalties on the Trojans.
“We came out treating like this was any other MIC game. We knew we had each other and we used that to bring CG home a win,” Gin said.
Next week Center Grove travels to Carmel to take on the Greyhounds in the annual Copper Kettle game. The next home game is on Sept. 8 against Ben Davis.
During halftime the 13th annual Cross
Country meet took place. Girls ran a 4k and boys ran a 5k. Coming in first place for the girls was Nina Fujii followed by Steph Embree, Gabrielle Harrell and Julia Falcone for the Trojans. The boys had a second place finish from Nick Wilson. Both teams won the meet against the Warriors.
