Junior Blaze Towe begins reading Chapter 1 of “The Great Gatsby,” which was recently handed out in Mrs. McDougal’s 7th period Literature class. The class spent the period learning about the 1920’s, the book's setting. “I’m excited to read this because it’s a classic book I haven’t read before,” Towe said. “I’ve always heard about [the book] and I’m excited to learn more about the time period.”

Humans of CG: Best Buddies Edition
Sophomore Ethan Wix cuts onions for a pasta dish for Culinary. For this dish, students made Chicken Alfredo to help them with their cooking skills that they can use at home or school. “We’re cooking a Chicken Alfredo meal,” Wix said. “This is helpful if I ever have to cook at home because I already know different knife cuts and other skills.”

During the Boiler Breakaway, an Ultimate Frisbee tournament that features colleges and universities from the midwest, senior Aaron Feitl passes a disc to his teammate. Center Grove was the only high school team invited to the tournament and went 4-1 on the weekend, with wins against Valparaiso University, Michigan State University, Rose Hulman University and Purdue University. "It's really challenging playing against college teams," Feitl said. "They run different formations than most high school teams which helps us practice adaptability during the game."

While participating in APUSH kickball, Junior Nora Liden strikes the ball with her foot. Every year following AP testing, Joshua Hart’s APUSH classes take a trip outdoors to have a friendly competition of kickball on the football field. “I had a lot of fun because I haven’t played kickball since middle school,” Liden said. “We got to be outside and it was nice out. I don’t remember the score but I know my team sadly lost.”

Preparing for their ISSMA competition sophomores Abigail Watson and Maya Kriech warm up their violins. Last weekend the concert orchestra participated in their ISSMA competition and received the highest award gold with distinction .”I really enjoyed ISSMA because we got to perform and show how hard we had been working” Kriech said. “It was fun seeing this orchestra grow from the moment we got are music to the moment we were playing it on stage.”

In Mr. Werner's seventh period construction class Devan Royalty drills a screw into two pieces of wood on a shed. The class is preparing to go a shed building competition next week at the Carpenters Apprenticeship school in Southport. "My favorite thing about this project is getting to work with my peers and being able to make new friends," Royalty said.

Competing in a driving simulator, senior Silas Falls controlls the wheel and pedals for a simulation at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This week, Debra Schoolcraft’s 5th period civil engineering class took a trip to the IMS to learn about the engineering that goes into keeping the track and everything included with that ready for the races held there. “I learned a lot, such as how race cars were made throughout the years and how the problems at the track are solved and fixed with engineers,” Falls said. “We got to tour the museum, suites and track. As well as this we had the vice president of construction management for the track, Tyrone Garrison, take us around and explain all of the though that goes into eveyrthing being perfect for the race days.”

"Sealing wood in shop class, sophomore Drew Black works on crafting a standing flower bed. This week, Bryan Werner’s general carpentry class worked on making flower beds and gardens for Princes Lakes retirement home as an effort in bettering the community. “This kind of work is very important to me,” Black said. “In class we do good deeds and participate in volunteer work for our community.”
This Week At CG: (3/9-3/13)
In Ryan Hendryx’s Honors Biology class, freshman Charley Schlemmer learns about natural selection by doing a fruit loop lab. Certain colors were picked to double or get rid of to show what natural selection is like, which helped students gain a deeper understanding of this topic. “It helped me see how natural selection works in the real world and in real environments and how one trait can be attacked and one can be favored depending on the environment,” Schlemmer said.

Sophomore Emma Winnett is a first year staff member. In publications, Winnett is currently working on yearbook and writing school features. Outside of publications, Winnett loves running, tennis, photography, and traveling.

When she isn’t busy reviewing articles by other staff writers, Lidy enjoys writing student features, opinion pieces, and taking sports photos. In addition to Publications, Lidy is a member of the Center Grove Girl’s Track team and an avid participant in Best Buddies.

Freshman Noah Poston is currently in his first year of Publications. Poston focuses on making videos for CGTV, along with taking photos. Outside of school, Poston has two dogs, and he loves to spend his time playing baseball, scuba diving and hiking in National Parks.

Sophomore Bailey Emerson is in her first year of Publications. She chose to join because of her passion for writing and photography. She enjoys working on yearbook mods and videos for CGTV. Emerson is in show choir as a member of the Debtones and she loves spending time with her family and friends.
Brandon Tripp
Brandon Tripp, Sports Social Media Editor
Junior Brandon Tripp has been on staff for two years. He started his career as a sophomore, taking pictures at sporting events throughout the school year that would go on the Trojaneer Sports Instagram page and in the yearbook. Tripp is one of the sports social media editors and currently works on making final score posts that go on the Trojaneer Sports Instagram page. Tripp would like to note that he loves motorsports and football.
