On Dec. 14, parents, students and educators gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the Simon Youth Center Grove Academy (SYCGA) graduating class of 2023. The 25 graduating seniors joined the more than 670 students who have graduated from SYCGA since 2007.

“It has meant everything,” senior graduate Caleb Boles said. “It’s half days, so it was better on my mental health. Being able to do half days, and not having to stress about being at school seven hours a day was really nice. It was mainly independent work, so it showed you what it is like to be on your own and not always have a teacher there by your side.”

Over 2300 students graduated from Simon Youth programs across Indiana this December. The curriculum is designed to be an alternative to a traditional classroom experience, with a greater emphasis on blended learning and vocational instruction.

“It’s not for everyone, and you have to keep that in mind,” junior graduate Lindsay Dalton said. “It gets to a point where you have to branch off and explore different forms. I would recommend the academy to someone who is having a hard time in school, but they do really well on their own.”
