- Skiing, Snowboarding or Tubing
Skiing and snowboarding are two fun winter activities that let you race down snowy slopes and mountains. For those who prefer something a little more laid-back, snow tubing is a fun alternative, where you can slide down hills on a large inflatable tube. Many resorts offer both skiing and tubing options, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re mastering the slopes or enjoying a laid-back tube ride, these activities are perfect for having some winter fun. Two places to visit if this is something you’re interested in are Perfect North Slopes, located in southeast Indiana, and Paoli Peaks, which is south of Bedford. - Ice Skating
Ice skating is a great way to enjoy the outdoors during winter. You can skate at an outdoor rink, or even an indoor arena, but it’s important to know that local lakes and ponds rarely have ice thick enough to safely enjoy. It’s a fun activity and a great way to bond with friends and family, whether you’re gliding gracefully or just simply trying to stay upright. Ice skating can also be a great workout as well, and overall a relaxing way to spend a winter day. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, you could visit The Ice at Carter Green in Carmel. If your’e willing to drive, SportONE Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne and Howard Park Ice Skating Rink in South Bend are also options. One last option to look into would be the ice rink at Perry Park, located on Stop 11 in Indianapolis. - Building a Snowman or Snow Sculptures
Building a snowman is a classic staple of winter and its traditions, offering a simple but fun activity. All you need is snow, maybe some creativity, and a few accessories like scarves and hats. You can’t forget the iconic coal buttons and carrot nose. Snow sculptures can allow you to get artistic with your designs, whether you’re making cool shapes or funny characters. It’s a playful way to enjoy the snow and express some creativity. - Winter Hiking
Winter hiking offers a peaceful way to explore the snow-covered trails. Snowshoes can help you walk on deeper snow, making it easier to access remote areas. The quiet beauty of winter nature is perfect for some reflection or taking some photos. Hiking is great for those who want to experience the outdoors in a calm and peaceful setting. Some trails great for this include Trail 6 in Charlestown State Park.” It’s rather rugged and about 2.3 miles long. Another option is Ohio River Bluff Hiking Trail located in O’Bannon Woods State Park. It’s a more rugged trail that is about 1.5 miles long. For those who want a calmer experience, visit Hemlock Cliffs, located in Hoosier National Forest, a moderate trail that’s only about 1.4 miles. - Hot Cocoa and a Fire
After a chilly day outside, nothing’s better than relaxing around a hot fire with a warm mug of hot cocoa. Soaking in the cozy atmosphere while you enjoy your drink, you can roast marshmallows, make s’mores and talk around the fire. Doing this with friends and family can create memories and be an easy way to bond with the people you love. It’s the perfect way to unwind and embrace the rather cold winter season.
