Sledding
Sledding is one of the easiest and most enjoyable things to do during the winter… if there’s snow. Fortunately this weekend, we may be in luck. All you need is a few sleds, a hill covered in snow, and a couple friends or family members. Sledding brings hours of fun as it’s a great way to go outside and get fresh air despite the chilly weather. Places such as Freedom Park (850 Stop 18 Rd), Craig Park (E. Smith Valley Road), and Old City Park (304 S. Meridian St)all have entertaining hills to sled down. A hidden gem is Glenns Valley Nature Park, which is very close as well (8015 Bluff Rd).
Movie/Game Night
A movie or game night is perfect for the evenings when you’re stuck inside with nothing to do. This weekend will be a great opportunity to play fun games or watch a new movie. You could gather a group of friends or even hang out with your family. Make some small, finger-food snacks and warm drinks, and take advantage of a cozy night watching movies or playing board games together. On your next grocery trip before the snow, alongside getting the bread and milk, grab a pack of red solo cups and some ping pong balls and plan some “minute-to-win it” games to keep you entertained. It is inexpensive, easy to do, and it’s a great way to spend quality time with people you love.
Crafts
Participating in different crafts while being snowed in is a fun way to have a creative mind while being trapped indoors. You can try new projects like sewing, crochet, pottery or painting. You could also make decorations out of scraps or a handmade gift for your friend or a family member. Crafts are affordable and give you something more individual to share with others or keep as a memory. They make the long snowy days feel more event-filled and exciting. You can visit crafty places such as Upaint Pottery (3113 W Smith Valley Rd), Streamside Studio Creations- at Crafts and Creations (3100 Meridian Parke DR Suite Y), or stock up at Hobby Lobby or Michaels (8040 US 31 S)to get supplies for crafting at home.
Ice Skating
Now, you probably don’t have an ice rink at your house. But the snow isn’t supposed to hit until Saturday around 3:30 PM. You could go ice skating until 3 on Saturday. Perry Park opens at noon on Saturday, so you have a solid three hours. Ice skating is a classic winter activity that is fun, but also active. Whether you are effortlessly drifting along the ice or laughing as you try not to fall, it is an exciting and enjoyable way to get some exercise and appreciate the cold weather. Many local rinks offer a cheap admission, making it not only fun but also an easy and affordable experience. Perry Park is very close (451 E. Stop 11 Road) and for one more weekend, you can go to Morris Bicentennial Plaza (117 S Pennsylvania St) outside of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It is open starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Bowling/Axe Throwing
I would also assume you don’t have an axe throwing set or a bowling alley at home either. On Friday night, I recommend you get the last hours of fun in until you’re stuck inside for the next three days. Bowling or axe throwing are less popular activities, but they are a great option if you want to try something different and thrilling during the winter time. Bowling is a perfect activity for a friendly competition and a lot of laughter, while axe throwing adds a fun new challenge alongside a bit of thrill. Both activities are usually inexpensive, particularly with group deals, and they make gloomy winter days seem more entertaining. You can visit local places such as Johnson County Axe Throwing (6001 N US Highway 31, Suite 9) or 10 Pins Duckpin Bowling in Franklin at 27 W Monroe St.
